Understand
the 2022 NFL Schedule
Remember, division
opponents play each other twice each season. That accounts for six games on the
schedule.
Teams then play each
team in a division from the same conference. For example, the NFC West plays
the NFC South this season. That’s another four games.
Then, teams will
crossover and play each team in a division from the other conference. This
year, the Rams will face the AFC West. That adds another four games giving us
14.
Two games are played
against a team from the same conference that finished in the same place in
their division. First-place teams (from the previous season) play other
first-place teams, second-place teams play second-place teams, and so on.
The final game on
the NFL schedule is a game against a team from the opposite conference that
finished in the same position last year. For example, the Rams will face AFC
East winner Buffalo. That makes 17 games and can help bettors as they search
for value bets during the 2022 season.

Understand
Bets & Odds
If you aren’t as experienced
yet, make sure you understand the different bets and how they work. Be sure you
know how to read NFL odds and lines.
There are all sorts
of ways to bet on the NFL - moneyline, spread, totals, props, futures, and
more. Make sure you understand each bet before haphazardly placing wagers.
Examine
NFL Trends
In getting ready for
the 2022 NFL season, it would help to familiarize yourself with some betting
trends. For example, when betting totals you should be aware that there are a
handful of key numbers.
More NFL games end
with a combined total of 41 than any other number. That number represents the
final total of 3.82 percent of NFL games. Next is 40 which accounts for 3.75
percent of totals. Other top numbers are 51, 47, and 44.
Knowing these common
totals can help in betting the Over or Under this season. Also, it’s worth
looking at teams that have trend history. The Chiefs, for example, have been a
high-scoring offense since they inserted Patrick Mahomes at quarterback. Last year
They were one of just two teams (Minnesota) with an Over percentage of greater
than 60 (12-8 O/U).
In betting against
the spread, it may also help to examine some league-wide and team-wide trends.
In 2021, the Dallas Cowboys were the best team against the spread with a 13-5
ATS mark. The Detroit Lions were not very successful in terms of wins and
losses, but they were a team to back with an 11-6 record ATS.
If you match trends
with the many different ways to bet on football, there is profit
to be had. With so many wagering options, smart betting is a must.
Betting
Week 1 of the 2022 NFL Season
Just like the teams
that will play this NFL season, it’s important for bettors to get off to a good
start in 2022. That means being prepared for Week 1. You can be sure top
football sportsbooks are prepared.
History suggests
that there are certain teams that fare better than others in the opening week
of an NFL season. Since the betting public tends to favor home teams and
favorites, there is some value on road underdogs…but not all road underdogs.
In narrowing down
the field a bit, we find that road underdogs that didn’t make the playoffs the
previous year are undervalued. The public tends to rely too much on recency,
i.e. last year.
Since 2005, road
underdogs that failed to make the postseason the previous year are 73-46-4 ATS.
You can break it down even further to road underdogs that won between four and
six games the previous season. Those teams are 65-33-2 ATS in Week 1 games
since 2005. That’s a 66 percent winning percentage.
Looking for trends
like these can help NFL bettors get off to a good start in 2022. Here’s to a
successful 2022 NFL betting season!
